Golf Holidays in Arran

There are 7 golf courses on Arran, of varying lengths and difficulties, so you should be able to find something to suit you, or just play them all!

The “Arran Golf Pass”, available from the golf courses themselves, offers the visitor a round on all seven of the courses. The cost of this is updated yearly.

A full 18 holes over 4736 yards, situated at the northern end of Brodick.Probably the oldest course in Arran, established in 1897. Tel: 01770 302394. Scorecard

A superbly scenic course, with great views out to the bay, framing Holy Isle in the distance. Lamlash has an impressively appointed and newly built clubhouse. 18 holes and 4510 yards. Tel: 01770 600 296. Website. Scorecard

Whiting Bay:

Our personal favourite, as well as being the closest to the cottage. High above the village of Whiting Bay, this affords good views across the sea to Ayrshire. The seventeenth green is particularly challenging! 4405 yards. Tel: 01770 700 775. Scorecard

Shiskine (Blackwaterfoot):

The only course in the south of the island, it also has the distinction of being the only 12-hole golf course we know of. It features a variety of “blind” holes with varying ingenious signals to let you know when the green is clear. 2990 yards. Tel: 01770 860 226. Website. Scorecard

Machrie Bay:

On the west side of the island, this 9 hole course lies in a pleasant spot close to the famous stone circles of Machrie Moor. Snacks usually available at the adjoining teashop in the summer. 2200 yards. Tel: 01770 840 213. Scorecard

A parkland course at the north of Arran. We haven’t played it yet so we can’t comment. 18 holes and 5487 yards. Tel: 01770 830 273. Website. Scorecard

A lovely 9 hole course near Sannox on the east of the island. It has a few delightfully challenging holes. 1948 yards. Tel: 01770 810223. Scorecard

Low handicappers looking for a real challenge should take the “wee ferry” from Lochranza over to the Mull-of-Kintyre in Argyll and attempt Machrihanish Golf course near Campbeltown. It’s a no-holds-barred 6225 yard Championship standard course. The first hole (once justifiable voted best opening hole in a worldwide competition) is a 428 yard par four which requires you to carry a sizable chunk of the Atlantic ocean! Prior booking essential, but do-able in a day during the summer. Tel: 01586 810213. Scorecard
